Biography
Born and educated in the Cathedral City of Ripon, North Yorkshire, Dean's formative years revealed a consuming enthusiasm for the world of cinematography. By the age of 14 he was already writing plays and studies on films and their directors. After completing his education, Dean’s career path was mapped out by his ambition to become a film director. He consequently studied every stage of the film-making process, and acquired all the necessary technical skills to attain his goal. Dean's awards for Speech and Drama from the London College of Music were the first in a long line of trophies and accolades. As an amateur film-maker, the awards came thick and fast for a trio of films that highlighted his talents and creative diversity in equal measure. "A Journey Into Darkness," his first film, was based on the Holocaust. "Peace and Quiet," was a tense terrorist thriller, and "Someone's Life" was the moving story of a troubled athlete dealing with both epilepsy and family discord (later given a prime time viewing slot on America's Cable TV channel). The many awards gained along the way for Dean's highly acclaimed work are a testament to his skills in film concept, scriptwriting, directing and editing. Among them were those for Best Film, Best Photography, Best Creative Use of Sound and Best Edited Film. After breaking prize-winning records at regional level and winning awards at national and international film festivals, Dean won yet another accolade. In 1993, he was voted Yorkshire Entrepreneur of the Year with Yorkshire Accountants. Following these numerous triumphs, he turned professional.
